Review: Forbidden

Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I'm really not sure how the best way to combat my thoughts on this book. Firstly, very intense and heartbreaking to read such a taboo subject in a story. Although I must admit I never did truly feel that Lochan and Maya were siblings, but you always get that feeling like it's wrong. My heart was breaking for them both as they just couldn't seem to survive without each other. Lochan was even worse off, he seemed to have so many issues working against him. The thing with this book is, the blurb had said "As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending" so immediately I know something bad is going to happen and I'm hiding behind my scary movie pillow and peeping for the moment, not literally as I don't think I could hold my nook very well. Anyway I knew it was coming and I spent so much of the book trying to guess the ending which took me away from some of the emotion playing out. When I actually could see what was going to happen I don't think I could even stop the tears before they were flooding. I really have to say, with a book like this, I feel very low and unfulfilled at the end. No happy ending and no feel good vibes from my make believe book world. I felt like crap afterwards and it left me quite sad, now whenever I think of this book (like now) I feel that horrid feeling again. I don't like feeling like that after a book. So amazing book, truly. Yet far too sad and heart wrenching to be read again by me. :(
