SERIES REVIEW - Calendar Girls Books 1-5 - Audrey Carlan

Author - Audrey Carlan
Title - Calendar Girls Books 1 - 5 (January - June)

Title - January

Synopsis

It’s really simple. I needed money. A lot of money. One million dollars to be exact. The amount didn’t matter. All that mattered is that at the end of that price tag held my father’s life.

No money. No life.

The time limit was one year. On January 1st I had to pay up or my Father was going to be killed.

When you’re faced with an ultimatum like this, you do whatever you have to do.

And that’s exactly what I did.

The job…Exquisite Escorts. My role, serve as high priced arm candy to anyone that can afford the $100,000 price tag for a month of my company. Sex is optional (for me) and a 20% increase on the price.

***
Mia Saunders just barely escaped a paltry life back home in Las Vegas until she gets the call that her Father has been beaten to within an inch of his life for not paying his gambling debt. Problem is, the lone shark is her lousy, ruthless ex-boyfriend. Another guy in a long line of men she’d fallen head over heels for. Not anymore.

Mia’s mission is simple. Serve as a high-priced escort for her Aunt’s company and pay monthly against her Father’s bad debt. A month with a rich man who she doesn’t have to sleep with if she doesn’t want to? Easy money. At least that’s the way it was supposed to go.

Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015. The stories will feature Mia, told from her perspective as she continues her journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

Warning: This book is designed for audiences 18+ due to language and graphic sexual content.

My Thoughts

*Sings* This is the story of a girl who cried a river and drowned the whole world..*Sings*

I had this song stuck in my head during the first half of this book. This is a story of a girl, but instead of crying she takes life and makes it her B****! Mia Saunders is a high price escort with Exquisite Escorts, but not by choice really. See her ex Blaine is a loan shark in Vegas (where they are from), when she left him she thought it would be a clean break. Poor Mia was wrong. See Daddy dearest had a gambling problem and owed Blaine a lot of money. So much money that when he couldn't pay Blaine's goons put Daddy in the hospital where he is in a coma. So the debt falls onto Mia's shoulders.

How do you become a high price escort you ask? Call your Aunt Millie who owns the business. Even more important what's the price men are willing to spend for a months worth of your time? Try a measly $100,000. If you sleep with the client you get a 20% price increase. Plus they have to clothe you, so a new wardrobe every month? Please tell me where do I sign up!?

Mia's first client is Weston Charles Channing III. He a script writer for movies, surfing stud. based out of Malibu. He needs Mia to help keep the gold diggers and socialites at bay at functions. Blonde hair, green eyes? Game over. And for a while I thought he wouldn't let Mia go once he got her. The chemistry between the two was off the charts. This is the closest to G Rated I could do..

"Going to take you so good, baby. I’m going to make sure you feel me, even when you’re gone."

So Mia did her job. She kept women at bay during business hours and as a bonus got amazing sex at night. But Mia and Wes's relationship was deeper then that. They became true friends. He named a character after her in his latest script. His family and friends loved her. She finally told him why she was doing the job. She explained to him that it was a matter of pride and having to pay it off on her own.
"So you’re leaving in two days, and there’s nothing I can do or say to make you stay?"
"I don’t want to lose you either. It’s just, I’m trying to find a place where letting you go is okay. Because it doesn’t feel right."
Mia couldn't face Wes to say goodbye, so she went the Dear John route. A couple days later he contacted her and told her about a gift he put in her bag, and she found..
"Mia, You forgot your key. It opens a lot more than a door. One day I hope you’ll use it."
I am team Wes. They worked. They didn't want to go there separate ways. They agreed to stay in contact and be Best Friends with Benefits. They agreed that they both thought that if they were truly in love with someone it would be with each other. But this story is coming to an end and now Mia is off to stay with a French Artist.

Title - February

Synopsis

A muse. Me. The motorcycle riding, ass-kicking, concert t-shirt wearing chick from Las Vegas, is a world-renowned French artist’s muse. For a month.

I had no idea when I took the escort job with Exquisite Escorts I would be standing naked in front of a blank canvas in a Seattle warehouse.

“Love on Canvas” he calls his exhibit, a combination of photographic stills and paint entwined to create the most awe-inspiring pieces the world will ever see. Except every last one of them features me and a moment in time where I was vulnerable.

Alec Dubois played on those vulnerabilities, teaching me lessons about love and life that would stay with me through the rest of my days.

***
Mia Saunders continues her mission to bail out her comatose father whose life is on the line to a dangerous loan-shark who happens to be Mia’s ex-boyfriend. For this journey, she serves as a high-priced escort to French artist named Alec Dubois in Seattle, Washington.

Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015. The stories will feature Mia, told from her perspective as she continues her journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

My Thoughts

Hello Seattle! In the February installment Mia's client is a hunky Frenchman named Alec Dubois. Not only does he paint but he's also into photography. Who is his muse? Obviously Mia is for a month. During Mia's first encounter with Alec she ends up twisting her ankle and sprains it due to him scaring him. She instantly doesn't know if she likes him because he keeps speaking French randomly and she has no idea what the heck he's saying. Reading it, I thought dang that's hot, but at the same time if a guy was doing that to me I would probably be annoyed to start with as well.

Alec is a dark, brooding, temperamental, sexy man with a man bun. Polar opposite of Wes in every way. When Alec speaks everything he says is deep. Mia asked him once what one of his tattoos was, he told her it was a poem:

"It reminds me that many will look at my art, the images I capture or paint, and sometimes, part of the experience will be when another person captures that person viewing my art. It changes what they see. So now, the art is viewed in a way that the person standing in front of it, becomes part of it."
The whole experience with Alec was about growing comfortable and loving yourself. He wanted Mia to walk around naked in the apartment. Because someone as beautiful as her should love her body. He was a through lover.
"The French make love. There are many forms of making love. Hard. Fast. Slow. Deliberate. I plan to do all those things to you, and for many, many hours. But not now. Now is the time for work. Later, we play."
It kind of freaked Mia out though when he get referring to sex as making love. She didn't understand why he wanted her to fall in love with him until he explained it.
"Oui. Exactly, ma jolie! You’ve got it. My commitment to you is to love you wholly for our time, and that will stay with you. And I will take your love with me. Then forever, we will both know that this time was built on trust, love, and friendship.” He paused then kissed me softly. “Nothing more in life is needed.""
So Mia's trip to Seattle was fruitful in knowledge. She learned to love herself. To allow someone to take care of her. Because let's face it the girl needs some solid TLC, all she does is work to take care of her dad and sister. She learned it's okay to love every man on her journey, that love doesn't have to be exclusive to one man and one man only. Alec made her into a better woman. He was the perfect lover and friend. When it came time to leave Alec she left him a Dear John letter like she did with Wes.

After she was through with Alec in Seattle she made a pit stop in Vegas to drop off a payment to Blaine, check in with her sister, dad and best friend. Because sometimes you need to go home to remember why you do what you do.

Title - March

Synopsis

A fiancée. I’m going to Chicago to pretend to be some Italian Stallion’s future wife. Why a massive hunk, boxer, and rich restaurateur needs a fake bride is beyond me. Then again, I’m not paid to know why. I’m paid $100,000 to be his escort, or in this case, the woman he’s supposedly “going” to marry.

The moment I met Antony “Tony” Fasano, I thought I might have lost my ability to breathe. In my twenty four years of life, I’d not seen anything like him. Clad only in a small towel precariously dangling from his hips--water droplets streaming down every inch of his muscular frame--I knew right then and there, I’d finally seen male perfection in all its raw glory.

What happened next blew me away. It was now abundantly clear why he needed me...a fake fiancée.

Mia Saunders continues her mission to save her comatose father from her dangerous, loan-shark ex-boyfriend. This month, she serves as a high-priced escort to a restaurateur named Anthony Fasano in the windy city of Chicago, Illinois.

Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015. The stories will feature Mia’s journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

My Thoughts

*contains spoilers*
Anthony "Tony" Fasano a drop dead sexy Italian god...who happens to bat for the same team Mia does. Tony and Hector (Tonys partner) hire Mia to play as his fake fiancé to get his family (mainly his mother) off his back about finding a woman and settling down. Okay so he's gay and owns a chain of Italian family restaurants, what's the problem? Oh just like a lot of men Tony is a mamas boy, doesn't want to upset Mama, or put "shame" to the family name. Needless to say the only people who know he's gay are Hector, Mia, and the cook.
So much happens in this book.

The Fasano family loves Mia and instantly welcomes her into the fold. She becomes close friends with not only Hector and Tony, but also Tony's sister Angie. When a family welcomes you with open arms like Fasano family did it would be hard lying to them. Mia felt awful for deceiving them, but she had to for Tony's sake.

While complying with this lie a lot of things happened. Hector and Mia became ridiculously close. His feelings were hurt because of this lie. The Fasano's loved him like he was another son and knew he was gay, so what's the problem? Angie was the first person to bring up that she knew Hector and Tony were partners and was totally okay with it.

"If there was ever a woman that could make a gay man straight it would be you."
Heck I would take that compliment.
"You know, Mia, it’s so tiring. Always hiding, worrying about who might find out, what it would mean to Mama and the family. How the public might take it. I couldn’t bear the thought of hurting my family and Hector in the process just for my own selfish desires."
I get it, it would be trying. But on another note Mia confides in Hector and Tony about Wes. Since she's been in the Windy City she's been in contact with him, thank god for phones and explicit words. Wes even decided to crash in on the trios St. Patrick's day drinking binge. Which almost lead to Tony pounding in Wes' face.
"Wes, sorry about that. But you know, drunk men, a beautiful woman, people can get handsy. I was just looking out for her."
Thankfully the boys love Mia so much they let Wes stay at there place so she could have an all night sexathon with him. When Wes left it tore her up, or maybe it was the letter he wrote her before he left.

Like the others this trip must come to an end. But before hand Mia stands next to Tony and Hector when they come out to the family. Then again when they come out to the world, or at least all of Chicago. Mama took it a little hard that she wouldn't get grandkids the traditional way, but she loves her son unconditionally. Like every mother the only thing she truly wants for Tony is for him to be happy and he is with Hector. After leaving them her 'see you later' note Mia was off to her next client in need. A pro baseball player in Boston.

Title - April

Synopsis

Baseball, beer, and a hot boy. Nothing can beat that. Until I meet Mason “Mace” Murphy the next “it” pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and my client. He’s immature, arrogant, sexy as sin, and the last man that’s going to get into my panties. He’s not used to hearing the word no from women, so I’m going to spell it out for him.

N = Not going to happen.

O = Out of your league buddy.

I was hired to cuddle up to the annoying, beautiful athlete, and give prospective advertisers and fans a different view of this hot-shot professional baller.

Only he’s everything I detest in a man all wrapped into a dream package. Baseball player, talented, athletic body, sculpted face, and ass you can bounce quarters off of. Unfortunately, he also believes he’s God’s gift to women, a man-whore, throws money around like it grows on trees, and conceited. The challenge for him, to break down my defenses and get in there. My challenge, avoid hopping in the sack with him at all costs.

My Thoughts

*contains spoilers*

Client: Mason Murphy, pitcher for the Red Sox. Grade A tool, but then again that is how he ended up with Mia. Mia was hired to "clean" up Masons act. In other words he needed her to act like his girlfriend so companies thought he had stopped his one night stands/drinking. If they thought he was good and settled then they would sign him to be there poster boy.
Sounds easy enough until she meets him. She immediately has to put him in his place and remind him that sleeping with him is completely optional, and one she will not do.

Mason was so crass that even I was frowning at times. It was like he had no respect for women. Which later we learn that his mother passed of breast cancer when he was young, so that may have something to do with it.

Right off the bat Mia learns a couple things: he's Irish, oldest of four boys, and his public relations representative Rachel has the hots for him...bad. Why is beyond me. But Mia also notices a change in Mason when Rachel is around, he's less crass and sometimes his eyes soften around her. That doesn't mean he doesn't still go a bit too far. Instantly Mia decides to give these two a push towards each other.

Mia instantly befriends Rachel. She encourages Rachel to find her inner vixen, which is kind of fun. When they decide it's time for Rachel to make her move on Mason he's too busy being a douche to notice and they walk in on some unsavory behavior. Which sets Mason back with Rachel. Don't worry he makes it up. Sooner rather then later the two finally get together, which makes for a very happy Mia.

Know what else makes for a very happy Mia? Beer and baseball. She completely embraced the role as star pitchers woman. What else does she embrace? The Murphy men. Even the youngest one who was 17, who gave his brother a run for his money at being crass.
During her time in Boston Mia also found out she had another talent. Putting together a charity event for breast cancer awareness. Not only did it improve Masons image, but it gave Mia something to do and made her feel useful.

Where Mason went Mia went. So when he went to Seattle for a game obviously Mia went. And since Mia has a healthy libido she scheduled a visit to see our favorite Frenchman. Which helped her heal from the heartache that Wes caused. What did he do you ask? Eh, he moved onto another woman, said woman answered phone, and it happened to be the actress who is playing Mia in the movie he is directing. Anyways in typical Alec form he went all deep on Mia and reminded her she is amazing.
"Only you, you need to remember you too are a gift to this world."
When they got back to Boston things became interesting. Mia and Mason got drunk one night slept in the same bed (literally slept), Rachel walked in and freaked out, stopped talking to them both. Then Mason got into an accident which finally made Rachel pull her head out of her ass and take Mason back.

So Mia got a brother or brothers if you count all the Murphys, a surrogate father, and a friend out of her Boston journey.

Title - May

Synopsis

Swimsuits, sun, surfing, and a sexy Samoan. I headed to the island of Oahu, Hawaii to meet with cutting-edge swimsuit fashion designer, Angel D’Amico, to serve as head model for the “Beauty Comes in All Sizes” swimsuit campaign. The designer wants to show the world that beauty is not just a size two. My curves got me into this gig, and, the moment I laid eyes on my modeling “partner,” I’d never been happier with my buxom form.

Tai Niko had everything the average man lacked. Height, broad shoulders, a nipped in waist, square pecs, tree trunk thighs, and a look that rivaled “The Rock.” The part that made me drool and weakened my knees, was the thick, intricate tribal tattoos running down the entire left side of his muscled frame from shoulder to ankle. The design was unlike anything I’d ever seen, and I couldn’t wait to trace the tips of my fingers over every inch.

***

In the fifth book of the Calendar Girl serial, Mia is sent to Oahu, HI. Still on her mission to save her father, she embraces the model life to prove beauty really does come in all sizes.

Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015. The stories will feature Mia’s journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

My Thoughts

*contains spoilers*

May starts off in Vegas. Paying Blaine and catching up with Maddy and Gin. Mia met Maddy's boyfriend and his family. They announce that they are engaged. Which freaks Mia out. Her baby sister is only twenty, not ready for marriage! But not to worry, they told her they don't plan on tying the proverbial knot until they have completed their Bachelor degrees.

After done in Vegas Mia heads to her next client. She will be the main model for a swimsuit campaign. Location: Hawaii. Talk about easy right?

When she gets to Hawaii she meets the D'Amico's, her bosses for the next month. She also meets her partner for the month Tai Niko, a huge tattooed Samoan god.

Tai Niko is sinful. Let's just say it doesn't take long for him and Mia to become familiar with each other. This book is sizzling when it comes to sex between the two. They knew instantly where the other stood, they were friends with benefits. When the month was over they would just be friends. And they transitioned well I think.
"Oh honey, I’m far from selfless, and plan on showing you when I take what I want from your wicked body."
Mia learned a lot about Tai and his culture. She learned somoan traditions, and met his family. Which I thought was awesome. Maddy and Gin also came to visit. Tai and his family took the girls in, showed them around the Island. This is the first book really that Mia got to do a decent amount of anything tourist like. Tai and his brother were great tour guides.
Tai's mother has the gift of sight. I thought this was awesome. She basically called Mia out (in a good way) the first time they met. She informed Mia and Tai that they weren't each others forever.

"You are very lost and on a great journey. Never fear. You will find great joy in the experience before committing to your forever."
Mia learned that Tai's forever is a green eyed blonde from the mainland. Mia hopes they find this girl soon for Tai's sake, he wants his forever desperately.
"I don’t want to leave you either, but you know, you know Tai, that we’re not each other’s forever."
Thankfully he did right before Mia left the island. Tai and Mia went out on her last night to celebrate their time together. Tai accidentally knocked over a lengthy blonde waitress. Mia instantly knew she was his forever girl, and was thrilled. She even kept Amy from getting fired by placing all the blame on Tai. Who at the time couldn't find the words to speak. One last tango, a picture and letter later Mia was off to her next job. DC here we come.

Title - June

Synopsis:

Politics, phallic statues, and pretty women.

Literally everywhere you look, you see an old man and a gold-digging cling-on wrapped around their wrinkly arms.

Luck had not gone my way when Warren Shipley, one of the nation’s wealthiest men hired me to play arm-candy in order to save face with the other one percenters he did business with. At least that’s what I thought when I arrived in Washington, DC, until I was met by old man Shipley’s debonair and insanely handsome son. Aaron Shipley was notably the youngest senator in the history of politics voted Senator of California at the tender age of thirty-five. Single, beyond rich, and the face of every political magazine around the US. Women everywhere wanted a taste of that power.

Me, I’d always thought politics were boring…boy was I wrong. Democracy had never been more exciting.

***
In the sixth book of the Calendar Girl serial, Mia is sent to our nation’s capital, Washington, DC. Still on her mission to save her father, she embraces the life of a gold-digging whore to allow her client to get close to other very powerful men.

Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015. The stories will feature Mia’s journey as an escort to twelve clients in twelve different locations.

My Thoughts:

*contains spoilers*

June like the month was hot. And not in the romantic sense. In the June installment Mia went to DC to be the arm candy of a man old enough to be her grandfather, Warren Shipley.
Mr. Shipley is a man from old money and part of the one percent.

I liked Warren. He needed Mia on his arm to help cut the red tape on his project. Basically he was wanting to take aid into third world countries. He needed access to use certain ports and what not. Totally admirable. And Mia was totally on board with helping such a great cause.

Mia and Wes made up, which made me happy. She got a tattoo to remember all the important men she has met on her journey so far. A dandelion with each man's initial on a pedal, and the quote: trust the journey. You can thank Tai for that one. He got the friendship mark tattooed in honor of her on the side that he had left open for just him. Swoon worthy!

We also deal with a Democratic Senator from California in this book. Aaron Shipley, son of Warren Shipley. At first I was alright with him. He was sexy, and the banter between him and Mia was great in the beginning.

"Me. Well, I get to chase my father’s hot young plaything in private.” His eyebrows quirked before he stepped back and winked."
But that was short lived. Soon we found out that he was a douche canoe. This came to light when Mia woke up with him trying to touch her, without her permission. She had been having a very realistic dream about Wes and his talents, woke up and there was Aaron. Thankfully she got sick and he left.

Kathleen, Warren's housekeeper/bed mate wanted to tell Warren, but Mia didn't deem it necessary.
Mia did her usual match making and helped Warren and Kathleen out by pushing them in the right direction relationship wise. Encouraged Warren to show her off and take her out. Basically romance her, which was super sweet.

The final event she had to attend with Warren was in one of her favorite cities, New York. She had been there briefly with Mason.

Coppery hair glinted off the overhead lights, and I ran my hands from his neck to his shoulder. “Miss me, sweetness?” He kissed my forehead the way a brother does a sister he hadn’t seen in a while.

MAJOR SPOILERS IN NEXT PART

Speaking of Mason, he made an appearance in this book. Him and Rachel were also at this event. I didn't realize how much I had missed Mason until he popped back in. And thank god he had.
Aaron Shipley decided to go all crazy at this event. Long story short he tried to assault Mia, managed to rip her dress. But not to worry, Mason saved the day.

'Mason threw a punch that landed solidly on Aaron’s face. Blood sprayed out of his mouth and across the gray concrete, painting it red.'

Mason and Rachel took complete charge. Got her to the hospital and made sure she was solid physically. While at the hospital Tai called, Rachel answered and told him Mia had been hurt on the job. Next thing we know is Tai is out for blood and in DC. Begging Mia to come home to Hawaii with him so Tina (his mother) could help her get better.
Tai and Mason hit it off. I think it was then that Mia realized how lucky she was. So far on this journey she had made some incredible friends. I think knowing that no matter what, she had not one but multiple men in her life that would do anything for her gave her peace during this experience.

"Never doubt that you’re loved, girlie. Family is what you make it, and I’ll always be there for you."

She had Mason and Rachel drive her to the airport this time, and gave them a proper goodbye. She had Rachel mail off her letter to Warren and Kathleen. Warren had done everything Mia had asked on the Aaron front. No charges were going to be pressed to protect Mia's friends, but he was getting the help he needed.
She learned that she needed to trust the journey and that she could handle whatever is thrown at her. Next stop, Miami, to be the star in a music video.
